Toyota to launch 2.5-litre 144PS Fortuner in 2013

The new model of the fortuner to be released by mid March 2013, is smaller version of the current model, a SUV with a 2.5 liter engine. This new engine will make a viable addition to the Fortuner range. It is the cheaper, option now and more fuel efficient from the current 3.0 liter diesel which is D4-D unit. The 2.5 litre D-4D engine also available in other markets, and now after it had been up-graded it will be introduced in India. They have replaced their old turbo with a variable nozzle (VN) turbine. They have also installed is a top-mount intercooler on the upgraded engine which is why the hood has a scooped contour. Thereby the 2.5 liter unit makes 144 PS @ 3400 rpm with 343 Nm @ 1600-2800 rpm as compared to the larger 3.0-litre unit makes 171 PS and 343 Nm of torque.

Therefore you can see not that much of a difference in the performance, because Toyota has upgraded the forced-induction system which has bought an increase of 41 % in power and 32 % increase in torque.
