Corolla Altis 2014

Ever since Japanese car maker Toyota launched the Corolla and the Corolla Altis in the market, it has continued to make headlines and the Corolla has emerged as a leading sedans in the Indian market.

The Corolla was first launched in the year 1966. Today, it is one of the best selling vehicles of all times. Approximately, nearly 39 million Corolla units have been sold on a worldwide basis and this was only the figure for the end of 2012. There are several reasons which explain the immense popularity of the Corolla. The two generations of the Toyota Corolla launched in India explain these reasons. The Corolla is undoubtedly a reliable car, boasts of impressive quality components outside and inside, comfortable rear and front seats, economical to drive and offers excellent ride quality and is known to be the best in terms of ride comfort in India. The diesel Toyota Corolla offers a mileage of 21.43 kmpl as per ARAI figures.

The Toyota Corolla Altis faces stiff competition in India from Chevrolet Cruz and the Hyundai Elantra . Both these competitors have dented Corolla’s sales to some extent. On a global scale, the Toyota Corolla Altis faces tough competition from Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Ford Focus and many others. One reason why its competitors have become popular is that they offered stylish offerings as compared to the Corolla Altis.

Toyota launched the 2014 Corolla Altis earlier this month in Taiwan. Thus, Taiwan becomes the first country in Asia to receive the redesigned Altis model. Images of European-spec Corolla Altis designed for Asian markets are already circulating online. The Taiwan branch of Toyota is geared up to update the Corolla. However, this does not come as a surprise since the Corolla Altis has been one among the top 5 best selling cars in Taiwan and certainly, it needs to be updated to keep up with its competitors.

Features of the New Altis

In Taiwan, the Corolla Altis is available in five different trims called as Z, Monarch, Deluxe, Classic and Elegance. All the trims are powered by a four-cylinder, 1.8-litre, DOHC, VVI-I engine. This engine generates a peak power output of 140 PS and churns a maximum torque of 176 Nm. The engine comes linked with a CVT transmission gearbox. Though being a CVT gearbox unit, the driver can use the  tiptronic gear lever to choose from available 7 speeds.

The Z model is quite sporty and receives feature and visual additions in the guise of a titanium black trim seen at the center console, rear spoiler, steering –mounted shift paddles, LED brake light as well as full body skirts. Seeing the new images of the new 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis, it is evident that the styling elements of the new Altis are borrowed from Furia concept. However, the new Altis looks more matured and sober as compared to the sporty appearance of the US version. There are no changes on the mechanical front. It is not yet confirmed which version of the Toyota Corolla Altis 2014 will debut in India. It is likely that Toyota will launch the US-spec version in India.

Please have varied interior options. It would be inappropriate to have a new sporty exterior and continue with the extremely boring beige interiors. Please introduce the black or multi colour options in India too.
