Toyota Wigo Vs Maruti Suzuki Alto

Maruti Suzuki is recognized as an undisputed leader of India’s hatchback market with nearly 6-7 models in its portfolio which are in mini and B segment range. The Alto K10 is Maruti’s most popular mini hatchbacks after the iconic Maruti 800 was withdrawn last year after a long hiatus of three decades. Toyota Motors similarly is a market leader of hatchbacks in Philippines which launched the Wigo hatchback during February 2014. The popularity of this car is recognizable by the fact that within a month of launch it sold around 627 units and capturing almost 27 percent of compact mini market. Both the Maruti Alto K10 and Toyota Wigo are small cars suited to city environment due to their ability to maneuver better and move fast in traffic areas.

Exterior and Interiors Features

Though its exteriors appear small the Maruti Alto K10 has a spacious body measuring 3620mm lengthwise and 1475mm widthwise to provide sufficient space for five passengers. To make it appealing to young first time buyers Maruti has presented it in attractive colors of white, red, silver, Front profile of the Alto is attractive with rectangular black radiator grille with chrome railing and wing shaped headlights cluster. All trims have fabric upholstery and floor mats with carpeting for neat appearance and small cubby hole above glove compartment to store knickknacks. Other interior comforts offered by Alto K10 include powerful air-con, cup holders, vanity mirror, ambient interior lamps and foldable rear seats.

The elegant Wigo has appealing exterior features with 14 inch alloy wheels and thin chrome strip on doors. The car’s rear lights are built in a unique design with LED lights integrated in its center. Interiors of this car are fitted with latest features of power windows, central locking and also has silver outline on its instrument cluster. The car’s multi-information touch screen has controls for management of navigational information, parking sensors and audio system which is compatible with MP3, USB and Bluetooth. Engine Specifications

Toyota Wigo hatchback is powered by 1 liter petrol engine which is mated to three cylinder 12 valve mechanism enabling it to maintain healthy speed limit of 150kmph.For improved performance and power its engine is enhanced with four speed automatic transmission system and power steering.

Maruti Alto K10 is also powered by a 1.0 liter 12V K series petrol engine and is mated to 3 cylinders automatic transmission mechanism which has output of 67 bhp and maximum torque of 90 Nm.

Safety and Suspension

Wigo’s safety equipment consists of airbags and seat belts across all variants of along with ABS, engine immobilizer and wireless door-lock in high end variants. Its braking technology is provided by ventilated disc and drum brakes while suspension system comprises of McPherson struts and torsion axle beam.

The Maruti Alto K10 has minimal safety features consisting of brake assist and side beams along with seatbelts for all passengers along with collapsible steering wheel. Ventilated disc and drum brakes provide safety in combination with McPherson struts and torsion roll device along with coil springs and three link axle system.
