The higher C segment of India which houses many great mid-sized sedans such as the new Honda City and Hyundai Verna, is highly potential. A number of car makers are eyeing this very lucrative segment, including India’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki which is planning to launch its Ciaz sedan very soon.

Looking at the scenario, the world’s largest car maker Toyota is also seriously considering this potential segment in India. Though Toyota is highly sought after in the global car markets, unfortunately in India it is not that popular. This Japanese car major’s Corolla mid-sized sedan is a tad too expensive and actually sits a segment higher that the C segment. Thus, it is known that Toyota is considering a new mid-sized sedan for India to sit just below the Corolla and fight with the likes of the new Honda City.

While some sources say that this new sedan from Toyota will be the Vios, while others say that it will be an entirely new sedan based on the Etios platform.

Now, According to a Japanese news journal, Toyota is contemplating to soon launch the Vios in India.

The company’s very capable and affordable Etios sedan has not been so popular owing to its plain design, and the rumor mills are churning that Toyota might phase out the Etios by 2020 to focus only on the Vios sedan, which is one of the primary rivals of the Honda City in other international markets.

As per the report, Toyota Motor plan to roll out about 50,000 Vios units per annum, at its twin production facilities in India.

However nothing has been officially confirmed by Toyota’s Indian counterpart, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. The company has already declared earlier this year that it is withdrawing its attention from the compact segments of India and will focus only on bigger cars in the country.

The current Toyota Vios is similar to the all new Corolla and new Camry in design terms. The Vious is powered by 1.5 liter petrol and a 1.4 liter diesel engine, both of which are mated to a 5 speed transmission gearbox.

If Toyota actually launches the Vios sedan in India, then it will be offered in both the petrol and diesel fuel options. The all new Honda City is the new leader of the Indian C segment overthrowing the Hyundai Verna from the top spot.
